Additions to Tableau Training and Help Resources

The OTDI Data Visualization team is sharing current and upcoming expanded Tableau support offerings to better serve the data community. Thank you to colleagues and customers who continue to provide feedback, which helps prioritize support enhancements.

Training:

We are currently evaluating updates to training materials like our popular Tableau Desktop Fundamentals online course in BuckeyeLearn and the Dashboard Development Lifecycle (DDLC) demo in the Administrative Resource Center ARC), to ensure alignment with current best practices.

In response to evolving user needs, we are conducting Tableau Server Fundamentals training via Zoom on August 19 and October 15. Since many people have augmented Workday reporting with Tableau reports, this 45-minute online training is for users new to using Tableau Server for reporting purposes. It will cover navigation, subscriptions, sharing data, and how to create and save report parameters. This training is intended for non-Medical Center users. Attendees must be up to date on IDP training and have access to Tableau Server. Registration through BuckeyeLearn is required and space is limited.

Consultation:

We are increasing the available options for Data Visualization consultations (Viz Bookings) to now include four distinct options listed below.

  • Analytics Exploration: Designed for users at the start of a data analytics project, with focus on high-level questions, potential insights, and data discovery.
  • Peer Review: Get your data visualization questions answered about performance, accessibility, security, and other feedback. Have a member of our team review a final draft of your dashboard for clarity and effectiveness before sharing broadly.
  • Project Leader Briefings: Learn more about creating and managing a Tableau Project or Power BI Workspace for your unit.
  • Data Visualization Consultation: General Tableau troubleshooting and refinement support.

LinkedIn Learning Playlist:

We’ve curated a SQL Fundamentals LinkedIn Learning playlist with SQL practice problems and developed documentation outlining the structure, roles, and responsibilities within the enterprise data ecosystem. This includes guidance on how data flows from ideation to the RAE and ultimately into Tableau.

The additional help resources shared demonstrate our continued care and compassion for the data community at Ohio State. These efforts create a more empowered, connected, and forward-thinking data culture at Ohio State.
